Colorado Statewide E-Bike Rebate Program

Colorado just opened up the lottery for the statewide e-bike rebate. Initial registration is only open through Monday, August 21st, so act now.

Note that currently you have to be income-qualified ($1,100 rebate for those under 80% of median household county income, $500 rebate for between 80% and 100%). Starting next April, everyone will qualify (with higher incomes getting a $450 rebate). Note that they use AGI (line 11 of your Federal income tax form) for your income.

E-bikes are great in-and-of-themselves, but they also have the potential to be a huge financial win for many folks. Many people who currently drive to work could easily replace that car (and all of the associated costs) with a much less expensive e-bike (less expensive both up front and in terms of operating costs). Many folks are hesitant to bike to work either because of the additional time it adds to their commute or they are worried about getting “sweaty” on the way to work. E-bikes address both of those and, in fact, your commute time on an e-bike will often be shorter than in a car because of alternative pathways and not having to deal as much with traffic. Obviously, this is very dependent on your specific commute, but check out google maps and click to the “bike” setting to see what might work for you. As a bonus, you will get a bit more exercise (most e-bikes have pedal-assist settings so you can set how much effort you want to provide and how much you want the motor to provide.)

Here’s a great article to learn more about the different types of e-bikes available right now.
